PROJECT
DESCRIPTION
This new 158,000
SF, three-story Justice Center features an open interior
atrium the full height of the building. Juvenile,
Magistrate, and Probate Courtrooms are located on
the main floor of the facility while two Superior
Courtrooms and two State Courtrooms are located on
the second floor. The third floor, left unfinished,
will provide four additional courtrooms in the future.
The building also features the County Clerk's Offices,
vault space, and administrative offices associated
with court functions.
Security is maintained through a single,
public entry through the atrium which allows access
to courtrooms, offices, and public spaces. A controlled
side entrance for judges provides access to court
support spaces without exposure to public circulation
areas. Inmate access from the Jail to the Justice
Center is via a secure, underground tunnel. Basement
level elevator access from the tunnel takes the prisoners
directly to secure holding spaces in the center of
the building. Holding spaces then connect directly
to courtrooms, thus eliminating inmate contact with
the public or judges.
The 127,859 SF jail complex houses 384
inmates in six management units of 64. Half of the
housing is in two-man, precast, concrete cells and
the remainder are in dormitory housing. The jail support
building is designed to support an inmate population
of 1,000 with intake, medical, food service, laundry,
and other ancillary spaces. The master plan provides
for two future housing pods of 256 beds each. One
existing housing pod with 150 beds will continue in
use.
